My first semester in high school went better than I expected. I expected to get all B’s and I didn’t expect to make new friends. I expected that my first day in high school would be rather depressing, but it didn’t actually turn out that way. It turned out to be a fun and interesting day. I met some really nice teachers and I discovered that my old friends from elementary school go to Foothill also. I walked around campus and got a feel of what to expect. The rough time didn’t come from school. It actually came from the death defying workout at Football practice. I did expect high school to be hard. I have to admit, it wasn’t as bad as the flaming, roasting, and burning hell of middle school. It was a pretty good day.
I actually made new friendships this semester. One of the new friendships that I made was with Michael Thompson. I knew Michael from middle school. I was introduced to him by my best friend, Max Winters. Max is a friend that I have known since first grade. Sadly, Max goes to Ventura now, but I do see him every once in a while when I go to sports. I also met my old friends from elementary school, Paul and Jimmy. They were introduced to me by Max too. My friends are the people who I trust. I know they will always support me.
Family is my life. What happens in my family is what runs my life. I am the middle child in my family. My older sister is eighteen, works at Panera Bread, and goes to college at CLU. My brother is thirteen and works to annoy me. I have three dogs. The oldest is a beagle named Dory who often steals my family's food. The other is a Chihuahua and weiner dog mix whose name is Bear and eats everything. The third and newest is a Yorkie named Lily. My cousin found her when her owner purposely left her at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. She was just a little puppy when she was abandoned. My family decided to keep her. My whole family is really big. My cousins, aunts, and uncles are spread out all over the country. My grandma is like a broadcasting system. She knows everything that happens with our family.
My first class is Spanish 1 with Mrs. Leaf. This class is really interesting because it is bizarre learning a new language. Learning how to read in another language is one thing that it teaches and it feels like going back to kindergarten. Changing the way you speak is confusing, but a real interesting experience.
My second class is geography with Mr. Prewitt. In this class I learned all about maps, navigation, biomes, and health. The maps and navigation were all pretty simple. I did not find biomes to be simple. Collecting biome information for the ninth grade project was easy, but presenting the information was not because I am not yet a good public speaker. I learned a lot in health, most of it more than I wanted to learn, but still a interesting subject to learn about.
My third class is biology with Mr. Duston. It was a easy class except for the labs which were fun. Collecting the data was a pain. The homework was also a bit of a pain, but for most of the classwork, it was fairly easy.
My fourth class is English with Mr. Geib. What we do mostly in the class is read and write. The books we read are really interesting and good. I typically don't read stories like these, but the stories were really good. Writing is easy for me because I easily let my feelings flow through my writing. I don't have to try all that hard to write things down. The inspiration and ideas come easily to me.
My fifth class is Geometry with Mr. Villa. This class is probably the most interesting because of all the different patterns you can make with Geometry. The different equations used to make different kinds of patterns are really interesting to me. The way we figure things out and estimate things in Geometry is really, really bizarre. Just the idea of the way things work in Geometry is really fascinating.
My sixth class is EDA with Mrs. Carr. This class is technology based. It is a easy class because it is all technology work which I find simple in terms of learning. Some projects may be hard, but most are actually simple.
This semester I played football for Ventura High School and it was fun. Experiencing it was a fun time. The workouts were brutal, yes, but to me it was all worth it in the end. The workout really helped me to strengthen my lungs that were not well because I had Pneumonia for three weeks during the summer. The condition my lungs were in was horrible. I was struggling for the first few weeks of football because I had to use a inhaler. Luckily I got over it and continued on to wrestling. Wrestling is a really hard sport to learn because you have to master all the different techniques that they teach you. Luckily I have a black belt in Taekwondo so I wasn't totally overwhelmed in the first week. I still had some technique behind me so I did pretty well in the first week. As I progressed, I've become much more skilled in the sport, but I still have some learning to do.
I have become more addicted to music. Itunes is the place were I love to shop. Music helps me to relieve any stress that I may have. I can't play a musical instrument even if my life depended on it, but I do know a lot about how music works. So far I have spent over a thousand dollars on music based things in the last year. I am that addicted. Any song I like on the radio I will buy in a heartbeat. Music is important to me because it actually keeps me sane and relaxed. Music is what keeps me stress free. Music buying is like a hobby that I have a passion for. It is very important to me mentally.
The first semester was a great learning experience for me to work for my goal which is attending UCLA. Keeping up on my homework can be hard, but it will all work out for the best in the end. The transition from middle school to high school for me was quite easy, mostly because middle school was like a land of hell for me and I probably will never miss it. Some of the transition was hard, but I got used to the high school learning atmosphere. The idea of college being in my future is excitingly overwhelming so I see that goal in front of me and I chase after it. First semester was interesting, but I can only imagine what the second semester will bring to the table.
